The Gulf Indian School, Kuwait is recognized by the Ministry of Education, Kuwait and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. It is a member of the 'Council of CBSE Affiliated Schools in the Gulf'. The school was established in 1993. It now has classes from Kindergarten to standard XII. The medium of instruction is English. The school follows the curriculum and syllabus of CBSE., New Delhi and prepares the students for the All India Secondary School Examination and All India Senior School Certificate Examination.
Hindi is a compulsory second language from class I to class VIII. In classes IX and X French is offered as an optional second language.
Arabic is taught as a third language in all classes from II to VIII.
The academic session starts in April and ends in March.

Mrs. Shyamala Divakaran is one of the pioneers in the field of education in Kuwait. She started her career in Kuwait 4 decades ago as a Mathematics teacher in the Fahaheel branch of the Indian School (presently known as the Indian Community School) and was later promoted as the Headmistress of the same branch in which capacity she served for 10 years till the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
During her tenure at the Indian School she has worked as a Member of the Quality Control Cell which was formed to ensure and maintain the quality of the teaching and learning process in the school.
Mrs. Divakaran is the Founder Principal of Gulf Indian School which was established in 1993 and she is still continuing at its helm.
She is an excellent leader and team builder with a clear vision and commitment which has enabled Gulf Indian School to maintain its status as one of the premier educational institutions in Kuwait.
In view of her long experience and valuable contribution as well as uprightness and commitment the competent authority of CBSE has appointed her as a Member of the Committee for the Inspection of Schools that have applied to the Board for Affiliation.
When CBSE has introduced Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) she was appointed as a Mentor for mentoring and monitoring the process in CBSE schools.
She has also served as the Convenor of the Kuwait Chapter of the CBSE affiliated Schools in the Gulf.
